Self-care to most have many meanings. Ultimately, self-care is considered to be: “to practice or take action in preserving to improve’s one health.” —- but how can some of us improve your health when you are face many challenges each day. These challenges can be as simple as not having time for yourself, not having the money to get the things you think that are self-care, or having the guilt of taking care of yourself. All of these obstacles can hold you back easily from making sure that what self-care look like for you is non existence. Self-care is not a panacea, or neither is it an on-off thing; it’s just like writing, it is something that builds over time, that we have to literally invest in and take small steps to make a real difference. So, as you take these small steps to make sure that you engage in self-care, look at the bigger picture, and make it work for you.
Let’s be honest, self-care does not have to cost a lot. It can be simple things that you have already been working on, or already doing that brings you so much joy that you can completely invest in. I know as a person, I love making sure that my skin is constantly feeling cleaned, clear, and have a glow…so I invest all of my money into face masks, and taking care of my skin.
Why do we find ourselves feeling guilty for taking time for ourselves? We shouldn’t. If you ever feel like the time that you are spending on yourself is wrong, think again…it’s NOTHING wrong with it! If we spend at least some of our time taking caring of our own needs, and replenishing our energy with self-care than we will feel like we are able to give everyone else what they need. If we don’t give ourselves that time, than of course, we are no good for no one else.
Sometimes taking time for yourself can be extremely challenging. So starting slow with your time is the best option, the best way. Make a list, or a schedule to add yourself into your own schedule. It’s like giving yourself permission to enjoy them. Making sure that you give yourself the time that you need is extremely essential, so do it.
Aside from scheduling your self-care time, it is important that you make sure that you become creative with how you spend your time. It can be a source of relaxation, a way that you can easily solve problems more effectively, and improve the well-being of your relationships. It’s about making sure that the things you do is helping you, and not feeling forced at all (because you feel like you to engage in self-care).
